[X] Provide Chromium betas [won't do]

Summary:

Provide Chromium betas alongside to the stable releases. This would be sweet :)

It would be great to not only have Chromium stable releases but if FreeSMUG could also provide betas as well and include an option in the settings to either only update to stable releases or also include betas in the update mechanism.

Of course that would mean more work for SMUG, but it's not impossible and it's what keeps me from using the SMUG Chromium build. The stable build is v10.x dev channel has 12.x already and there have been tons of enhancements which I don't want to miss anymore. So going back to v10.x is not an option, although I'd love to use smug, because the dev releases come 10x/day and some really break things. OK I just have to wait 30 minutes for the next release, but I'd love to use the betas. The stables are too far away from the dev releases for my taste.

Did you guys ever consider making this step?

OT: How can I subscribe to this thread and receive mail notifications?!?

Build Chromium is described here, and as you wrote is more work for me as beta builds are released more often than stable one. I can't take this effort continuously, but if you are interested I can give you detailed instructions on how add Sparkle framework to Chromium code.

Thanks for your response. I currently am involved in a project already so this exceeds my capacity as well. I know - it's a bit lame to first ask and then not provide anything myself at the same time. I'm also not a programmer and have no clue about how to compile software. Also no xCode on my system ect. let alone including sparkle.

But please keep up the stable releases. I think Chromium is very important and as long as it co-exists to Chrome I'm very happy. I don't like the idea of Google spying on my every move so Chromium is my choice.

Good luck with FreeSMUG! This is a project of incredible value for the mac-community.
